So I am the Marketing Intern for the College of Business here at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, and I was recently introduced to the website MailChimp. Its mainly used for sending out emails and newsletters to email lists from companies, but I am using it to send out internship updates to the students in the College of Business. At first, I was really excited to start using it because previously we had been using Microsoft Publisher to send out the updates, and we wanted something a little newer and fresher.
Once I started to use it though I realized it was different that what I thought it would be! And not so much in a good way. It is still is pretty cool but I wish that I could move the text boxes around and change the colors of the background easier. I'm still working with it to figure it out but I think I am getting somewhere!
Check it out below!

Some may ask if this is a blog about animals because of the title, but in fact it is not. According to Merriam-Webster, menagerie is defined as "a varied mixture," with synonyms like alphabet soup, medley, and mishmash, and that is exactly what this blog will be about- a mix of topics ranging from my favorites of anything to professional article summaries.

Maintaining an Online Brand
I would say that keeping a professional and consistent online brand is very important these days. Social media was built upon the foundation of exactly what the title suggests--being social. Now though, the common social media sites are being used to brand ones self. By that I mean that people are posting articles relevant to their major, commenting on publications they find interesting, and following industry leaders, all to try to make themselves stand out against the competition.
So many companies are using social media as a basis for hiring and firing employees. One bad post, picture, or comment could stop you from being hired, or worse, get you fired from a job you already have.
When it comes to my social media sites, I am very well aware of what I am posting and what others are posting and tagging me in. I keep all of my comments light-hearted and encouraging, and I never bash anyone or use vulgar language, its just not appropriate. I am currently looking for a summer internship, so now more than ever, I am very conscious of what is being posted to my Facebook and Twitter.
LinkedIn is my most professional site and I like to share articles I find interesting and comment on ones I read. I also like to share marketing articles via Twitter and sometimes on Facebook too. If an employer sees that I am active in my industry and interested in leading news stories, hopefully they will appreciate it more over someone who posts inappropriate pictures and comments.

Snow, Ice and Rain!
It seems that this winter has been a nasty one! I feel like I am always walking to class in some sort of precipitation, whether it be snow, ice or even rain! RAIN! In the winter.. it just seems crazy! I love winter, and I really don't even mind the cold. Its just the walking and driving in it part that gets to me, especially this year because no one likes to shovel their sidewalk. FYI renters, its your lawful duty to shovel your sidewalk in front of your house within 24 hours of the last snow fall! You do this so that people don't sue you when they fall on the what is now ice in front of your house! Not complaining, just informing everyone of their civil winter duties. Hope everyone stays safe out there.

Bachelor Mondays
So I just got done watching the Bachelor and it was crazy! Good and bad in both ways! My favorite girl got let go, which was sad, but the girl who wasn't anyone's favorite got sent home too, which was necessary because she caused a lot of drama and who I believe to be a very insincere person! Some may think this show is superficial (which I believe to some extent) but its sooo good too! They go to amazing places all over the world and they get to experience so many cool things and do so many awesome activities! I love my Bachelor Mondays!

My Lazy Sunday!
So I slept in till about 12 o'clock today, which I do almost every Saturday and Sunday. What's wrong with sleeping in that late when I have to be up by 8/8:30 every morning during the week!? Nothing! Absolutely nothing. Not saying that 8/8:30 is early, because trust me, I have had my fair share of 5AM mornings during the summer when I had to be to work at 6. But I am going to enjoy my weekend sleep ins when I can! Then I proceeded to take a 2 hour nap from 2-4... Ooops. What are you going to do?! You're tired, so you nap. Simple as that. I did get homework done so that is also a plus. Now I probably won't be able to sleep tonight.

Yesterday, I went snow tubing at Sunburst Ski Area that is located near Kewaskum. It is about an hour south east of Oshkosh. The program was being put on by the freshman dorms on campus and my boyfriend and I were invited through one of his friends who was a chaperon. We had a blast, even if we got cold at times! I haven't been there since I was in 8th grade so it was cool to be back again! Instead of having to walk up the hill or have a tow rope attached to the tube while you sit in it, a conveyor belt took us up. You just stood on it and up you went! It was a great way to spend my Friday afternoon.
